To celebrate my birthday month, I created a playful version of my strawberry blossoms using Funfetti cake mix. These sprinkle blossoms are soft, sweet, and full of festive color and flavor—simple to make and eye-catching on any dessert table.
Starting with a boxed cake mix makes these mini cakes quick and reliable. A few ingredients, a mini muffin pan, and a short bake time yield bakery-style bite-sized treats that are easy to dress up with glaze and sprinkles.

Ingredients
These sprinkle blossoms are made with common pantry items and a boxed Funfetti cake mix.

- 15.25 ounce Funfetti cake mix
- 3.5 ounce instant vanilla pudding mix
- 4 eggs
- ¾ cup vegetable oil
- ½ cup water
- 3 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)
- 5 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
- ¼ cup sprinkles (or more to taste)
How to make sprinkle blossoms
Step one: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a mini muffin pan with non-stick cooking spray.
Step two: In a mixing bowl, combine the Funfetti cake mix, instant vanilla pudding mix, eggs, vegetable oil, and water. Mix until just combined and smooth.
Step three: Spoon batter into the prepared mini muffin pan, filling each cup about three quarters full. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the mini cakes cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a cooling rack.

Step four: Make the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the milk to reach a dip-able consistency—thicker glaze will sit on top of the cakes, thinner glaze will coat them more evenly.
Step five: Dip the tops of the mini cakes into the glaze, then immediately sprinkle with sprinkles. Place the glazed cakes on a wire rack or parchment to let the glaze set.

Step six: Allow the glaze to set completely before serving. Enjoy these bright, bite-sized cakes fresh or store them for later.
Recipe tips
- Grease the pan well. Properly greased muffin tins make removal easier.
- Don’t overfill the cups. Fill each mini muffin cup half to three quarters full to prevent overflow.
- Use a toothpick if needed. A toothpick can help gently pop cakes out of the pan without damage.
- Let glaze set. Waiting until the glaze firms up makes them easier to handle and transport.
Variations and substitutions
- Different cake mix: Swap Funfetti for vanilla, chocolate, or another flavor.
- Alternative toppings: Use buttercream, cream cheese frosting, or a dusting of powdered sugar instead of glaze.
- Flavor swaps: Replace vanilla extract with almond or lemon extract for a different twist.

Storage
Store leftover sprinkle blossoms in an airtight container at room temperature for 2–3 days. To freeze, place cooled cakes on a baking sheet and freeze for about an hour, then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze up to 2 months. Thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature before serving.
